Alpenglow School Welcomes Nature Immersion Specialist
With great enthusiasm, ACES would like to announce how we're investing in the nature immersion pillar of our program. Starting this April, we hired Andrea Barnes to be Alpenglow's 'Nature Immersion Curriculum Specialist' and we're already seeing results. She is actively drafting nature immersion curriculum for the teaching team, preparing nature-based learning supplies, assisting with environmental inquiry projects, and directly delivering nature rich, curriculum-based lessons for each of the classes.
Andrea has spent the past 20 years developing, delivering and evaluating Environmental Education programs. She is a certified elementary school teacher (with specialized training in Indigenous Learning, Environmental Inquiry and Placed-Based Education), she also holds an environmental science degree. She thrives on learning new things, creating meaningful and authentic learning experiences, and connecting children with nature by building a sense of place.
Andrea will be hosting a parent information session on May 31st, if you'd like to learn more. Alpenglow parents and interested community members are welcome to walk and learn together during this outdoors, evening session.
The session "The Beauty and Benefit of Nature-Based Learning" will be from 7-8:30 pm and will start behind the school (at the firepit circle).
