Our Vision - Our children are inspired to discover their vision, passions and reverence for life.
Our Mission -To connect our children with themselves, nature and community through an integrated nature-based approach to learning inspired by Waldorf education.
Our Pillars - Academic Excellence. Artistic Expression. Community Minded. Nature-Centred
Our Alpenglow Philosophy
Our Alpenglow Programs are guided by the principles of Waldorf Education and nature connection experiences. We believe that education is most effective when it builds a sense of wonder, thirst for knowledge and matches the natural stages of human development. Our programs nurture compassion, imagination and creativity. They celebrate the rhythms of nature and the magic of learning- encouraging our children to ask why throughout their lives. They build a strong foundation for future learning and development by integrating the arts, academics and nature immersion. We strive to elicit in each child a strong sense of the imagination, empowerment, self-esteem and respect for self, others and the environment. We nurture our children in community and nature cultivating children who can trust in themselves, take risks and explore their gifts. We endeavour to instil within each child, a lifelong love of learning and to guide children to explore their full potential.
Our Story
In the Fall of 2007, education and parenting practices following many of the methods of Waldorf education brought us together, filled our hearts and inspired us to build and nurture a supportive and caring community for our children and ourselves as parents. Parent and Toddler groups and Playgroups were started and lead by a Waldorf teacher. Through these experiences together, a spark for more education inspired by Waldorf education beyond the preschool years was ignited. In the Spring of 2008, a Parent Group was formed to organize festivals and events, Parent & Toddler groups and Playgroups become more formalized, and our community continued to grow and evolve. With increasing enrolment in our Early Childhood programs and strong community support for a Kindergarten based on Waldorf teaching methods and nature immersion, the Alpenglow Community Education Society (ACES) with an initial council of four parents, was established in April 2012. ACES supported the Alpenglow Community School, an independent school offering a Kindergarten class. During this first year of Kindergarten, the Alpenglow Community Education Society (ACES) and Canadian Rockies Public Schools (CRPS) entered a partnership to create the Alpenglow School, an alternative program, within the public school system. To help support this exciting journey, the ACES Council grew from four to eleven members the summer of 2013, and had a heart-filled summer building the classrooms and program. On September 3, 2013, Kinder kids and Grades 1 -4 students were welcomed to their new school and classrooms in a quiet wing at the Canmore Collegiate High School. Since then, the Alpenglow school has grown to Grade 6, and sadly the Parent & Toddler Groups and Playgroups have closed their doors.
