May message from ACES
Hello Alpenglow Families,
May is here and we are just now glimpsing what could be the end of the snow with warmer weather coming more and more. With this, and the word 'spring' hovering, we can't help but remind you of our beautiful Springfest coming up at the end of the month (May 31st). It will have, just to name a few, beautiful crafts, the enchanted forest, an obstacle course and of course our Maypole Dance performed by our Grade 3 students. We are still urgently looking for a leader for this dance, so please email Maureen if you are able to help for all or maybe a few days. Also thinking of spring, the flowers ordered from our Spring fundraiser arrive today. Thank you to all who ordered plants and we hope the blooms and berries put smiles on your faces as they will ours.
Another upcoming important date is Wednesday May 22nd, when we will hold our ACES AGM (Annual General Meeting). At this short meeting will share some of our years highlights, review the budget, vote in any new members and have some snacks and tea to share. This year we are looking to fill 2 new positions, both Director-At-Large. These positions will help organize and schedule our speaker series for the year, help where needed with festivals and events, and help with networking and getting connected to our community. If this is of interest to you, please email our President, Alexia McKinnon.
In this newsletter we have detailed information on a couple great talks coming up, The Nature of Boys this Thursday evening at CCHS, and a webinar, Talking With Kids About Sex on May 15th for our families with students in Grade 4-6. We also have blog updates on our chickens who have moved but we have new eggs a-hatching, and our Nature Tales, reminding us what Earth Day stands for and what our school did to celebrate the Earth.
Looking into our last two months of school, those in the back offices are planning for next year and will be looking for your confirmation of intent to return to Alpenglow School. This will come to you via email in the next couple weeks to respond to, as well as informing you of our new simpler and easier volunteer system! This system will throw away the required number of hours and in return ask for your commitment to volunteer for specific events, festivals or committees. Also, be sure to mark the evening of Thursday June 27th on your calendar to come to our annual Year End Potluck. This year's raffle winners will be drawn here, and it's a lovely way to celebrate the end of another amazing school year.
Lastly and always, thank you to everyone who has volunteered this month for our teachers in the classrooms, with our festivals and events, in preparation for next school year, and everything else! We hold you close to our hearts and want you to know that our school would not be what it is without you.
