Our Waldorf-inspired outdoor Kindergarten is a play-based program in which the children play and learn together in our warm loving home-like classroom, and play and explore in our beautiful natural outdoors. Within this predictable and protective learning environment, the children engage in domestic, practical and artistic activities, such as baking, painting, gardening and handcrafts. Their activities, stories, and indoor and outdoor play are connected to the changing seasons and celebrations of the year.
The focus of our Kindergarten is to nurture the children’s power of imagination through telling carefully selected stories, by encouraging free play, connecting with nature and developing a simple daily routine. Free or fantasy play, in which children act out scenarios of their own creation, helps them to experience many aspects of life more deeply. Their multi-functional toys are made of natural materials such as wood, cotton, wool and silk. Objects from nature, such as shells, stones, pinecones, branches, stumps and nuts are also collected to use in play and to beautify the room.
Within our daily and weekly routine, the children follow a predictable rhythm with time to play and explore outdoor times, and immerse in arts and handcrafts, such as crayoning, watercolour painting, beeswax modeling, felting and baking. Their literacy and language development are strengthened through seasonal verses, songs, puppet shows, fingerplays, and storytelling. In addition, movement and circle games help develop their physical coordination and dexterity, as well as introduce them to mathematical concepts.
